Now she swam in the warm water of the ocean of this strange world, with only a Crotonite-made robot to speak with. The robot had been built to Cephallonian specifications, with only the intelligence the Crotonites had given it to perform certain tasks. Also, the Crotonites had never liked the Ilonians, and this bias tended to show up now and then in the robot's speech and behavior.

Now, though, Ph'anjan's first worries were food and shelter. This was an alien world, of course, and some of the higher officers had known its name and quite a bit about its natural history. Ph'anjan had learned only that there was a huge, dark gray carnivore called a mor'ul that roamed this sea, and if she intended to survive at all she'd better not forget it.
